Panaji, July 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Amid the speculation of some Congress MLAs joining the BJP, Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Sunday withdrew the notification for election to the post of deputy speaker.
The election for deputy speaker was scheduled for July 12, on the second day of Assembly session.
Deputy Speaker's post fell vacant in April after BJP MLA Subhash Phal Dessai resigned from the post to join the cabinet. Dessai is currently the Social Welfare Minister.
"The notice for election of Deputy Speaker issued under bulletin part II, no 53, dated 8th July, 2022, is hereby withdrawn by the honorable speaker under the rule 308 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Goa legislative Assembly," the order was issued on Sunday by Legislature Secretary Namrata Ulman said.
"Hence, the notice of nomination for election of deputy speaker issued under 9(2) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Goa Legislative Assembly stands withdrawn also," the order further said.
