New Delhi, July 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) The National Green Tribunal has observed "inadequate action" on encroachment near Mansa Devi Temple complex in Rajaji Tiger Reserve area of Uttarakhand.
The principal bench of NGT chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel was dealing with a grievance against the dumping of waste near Mansa Devi Temple complex by shopkeepers in the area and the failure of the authorities concerned.
As a result of such dumping, the health of the animals and birds is adversely affected. There is also a separate complaint about the encroachment of 0.075-hectare land on the way to the channel gate of Satsang Bhawan of Mansa Devi Temple complex.
"..Since action for removing of encroachment is inadequate, further proceedings be initiated for ensuring that the area is made free of encroachment, apart from prosecution. Natural streams and springs/water courses be protected from encroachment," the tribunal said in the order.
Earlier, acting on the complaint and forming a committee to check the issue, the green court was told that the State Pollution Control Board found the violations and remedial action taken including steps for maintenance of hygiene and cleanliness, disposal of the waste, creating awareness, compliance with provision of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, prohibiting and regulating commercial activities and removing encroachments.
"In view of the said report, there is need to continue remedial measures, to be supervised at appropriate higher level in the District Administration, Forest Administration and PCB.." the green court said in the order dated July 8 while disposing of the plea.
