Rabat, July 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Moroccan King Mohammed VI granted pardon on Sunday to 979 people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the Moroccan Justice Ministry said in a statement.
Morocco like several Arab countries has a tradition of granting pardon to prisoners on Eid-al-Adha, one of the most important festival for Muslims around the world.
Most of the people on the pardon list get their imprisonment term reduced or completely cancelled, while a handful of them have the fines reduced or annulled, Xinhua news agency reported.
The statement said that 11 prisoners convicted of extremism and terrorism are among the pardoned ones, noting they have participated in an initiative launched by the Moroccan government to rehabilitate terrorists.
These 11 prisoners had officially announced their rejection of all forms of extremism and terrorism, the statement added.
