New Delhi, July 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will give the inert soil at all three landfill sites in the city free of cost to the public.
The MCD has decided to give the inert soil produced at landfill sites to the public free so that it can be used for filling low-lying areas. The MCD has started working in this direction in a time-bound manner to process the mounds of garbage lying, said an official.
The move comes a week after Lt Governor V.K. Saxena described the landfill sites in Delhi as 'grave health hazards' and a 'national shame'.
In a Twitter post, he had said, 'Unseemly Mountains of Garbage surround Delhi. Stinking heaps over 50 metres high in the Capital are not only grave health hazards but a National Shame!"
He also reached out to the people and sought their ideas asking suggestions to get rid of the waste. "Your suggestions & participation will be of value in the efforts to rid Delhi of over 28 million MT of waste", he added in the same tweet.
The national capital has three landfill sites -- Ghazipur, Bhalaswa and Okhla which have turned into huge garbage mountains. The inert soil produced at these sites of Delhi will be provided to citizens, land-owning agencies and contractors which can be used for filling in of low-lying areas of the city.
