Thiruvananthapuram, July 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) RSS-affiliate, Hindu Aikya Vedi, has said that senior Congress leader V.D. Satheeshan, who is also the opposition leader in the state assembly, had sought the help of RSS in an earlier election.

While speaking to mediapersons in Kochi on Sunday, Hindu Aikya Vedi's state general secretary, R.V. Babu said that Satheeshan had approached the Kerala RSS leadership for helping him to win the assembly election from Paravur constituency.

The RSS and V.D. Satheeshan are engaged in a heated controversy after the latter while calling for the resignation of CPM leader Saji Cherian (who later resigned) on his remarks against the Constitution of India said that the CPM leader was following the thoughts of RSS leader Madhav Sadasiva Golwalkar alias Guruji.

He said that the views of Saji Cherian was in accordance with the RSS.

To substantiate his charge, Satheeshan said that Guru Golwalkar had in his book 'Bunch of Thoughts' had raised a similar opinion about the constitution and the LDF government had once decided to include this book in the syllabus of Kannur university.

The statement of Satheeshan did not go down well with the RSS, and BJP state vice-president, C. Sadanandan Master released photographs of the opposition leader participating in an RSS function at Paravur in 2006.

Speaking with IANS, R.V. Babu said: "For V.D. Satheeshan, RSS was not untouchable then and had attended the programme of the sangh in which he himself had lit a lamp in front of the photograph of Guruji Golwalkar. He has now made these statements as he finds that he would get more votes if he aligns himself with Islamists and for that appeasement he is coming out against the RSS."

Meanwhile, former Opposition leader and senior Congress leader, Ramesh Chennithala in a press conference here on Sunday said that if he was in place of Satheeshan, he would not have attended the RSS function.

However, he said that Satheeshan had taken strong positions against the RSS inside and outside the assembly and that the Congress party was united in its fight against the RSS in the national-level, and in Kerala also.

Satheeshan has, however, refused to comment on the controversy.
