J&K LG to camp at Amarnath yatra base camp to monitor rescue and relief ops

Srinagar, July 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday visited the Amarnath Yatra base camp at Pahalgam's Nunwan and reviewed the arrangements at healthcare facilities and 'langars' (community kitchens).

Interacting with the pilgrims, he observed that providing better facilities to pilgrims is the government's top priority, and dedicated measures are being taken to ensure their safety and well-being.

"The Lt Governor will camp overnight at Nunwan to oversee the rescue and relief operations and efforts being made to resume the Yatra as soon as possible," an official statement said.

Sinha lauded the commendable efforts and swift action of the army, the paramilitary forces, the National Disaster Response Force, and civil administration during the rescue and relief operation for saving precious lives.

Earlier, the Lt Governor was briefed about the rescue and relief operations, debris clearance, deployment of machinery and manpower, camp-wise breakdown of the pilgrims, besides the arrangements and efforts put in to facilitate the Yatris.

The Amarnath Yatra remained suspended for a second consecutive day on Sunday as search and rescue operations continued to locate the people who went missing following flash floods triggered by heavy rain last week that claimed 16 lives, while 40 people remain unaccounted for.
