After dream debut, England pacer Gleeson aims for T20 World Cup berth

Birmingham, July 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Pace bowler Richard Gleeson's smashing debut for England in the second T20I against India might have given the Jos Buttler-led side another option for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, and the quick himself indicated if the opportunity comes to him, he will grab it with both hands.

The 34-year-old Gleeson had a dream debut on Saturday, taking out the top-three India batters -- Rohit Sharma (31), Rishabh Pant (26) and Virat Kohli (1) -- but it was kind of bittersweet as in spite of such a wonderful bowling performance, the hosts lost the match by 49 runs, and with it the three-match series.

Gleeson, who has become England's oldest debutant since Paul Nixon in 2007, added post-match that his aim always is to perform at the highest level and that the England call-up just happened.

"England wasn't on my radar, it was just about trying to reach the highest level that I could and I have got to here so far," Gleeson was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.

It only took a four-ball spell from the former minor counties pace bowler to stall India's progress, and Gleeson indicated he was ready to challenge the best in the business if given more opportunities.

Asked if the T20 World Cup in Australia was his destination, the bowler said, "You want to play in the big occasions, don't you? So, yeah, why not? I'll just look towards the next game and go from that, I think."
