New Delhi, July 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Delhi man, who concocted a fake robbery story in a bid to clear off his debts with his wife's money, has been booked, Delhi Police said on Friday.
The accused, identified as Raman Bhola, was booked under section 182 (False information) of the Indian Penal Code.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer, Sameer Sharma said a PCR call was received Paschim Vihar East police station on June 29, reporting the robbery of a bag containing Rs 2 lakh cash by two unknown persons.
A police team met complainant Bhola, who said that he had withdrawn the cash and was walking back towards his house. When he stopped to fetch his water bottle from his car parked near his house, one person came near him and enquired about an address on his mobile phone.
Suddenly, someone hit him from behind due to which he fell and became unconscious for a moment. When he regained consciousness, the bag had disappeared.
However, police were a little suspicious of his story.
"He was continuously changing his statement and during a detailed recording of his statement, he alleged that two unknown persons were on a motorcycle and snatched his bag," the DCP said.
Police then didn't register the case instantly but decided to conduct a preliminary enquiry, which found that Bhola incurred huge losses during the Covid pandemic and was also in debt. His wife worked as a private school teacher and also gave home tuitions. However, the couple often fought over financial issues.
"All the aspects were analysed and it was made out that the complainant had concocted this story and nothing happened to him. He was shown all the CCTV footage and finally he broke down and admitted that nothing happened to him," the DCP said.
The Rs 2 lakh, which he had kept hidden in his car, has been recovered, he added.
