The Calder Trophy is one of the most iconic awards to win in the sport of hockey. NHL greats such as Cal Makar and Kiril Kaprizov have also won the award. For those of you who do not know what the Calder Trophy is, it is awarded to the rookie of the year in the NHL. In order to be a rookie in the NHL, the player must not have over 25 games or more games played in their previous NHL seasons. This year the Calder Trophy race was extremely tight. NHL fans will need any prediction that helps them to guess who will win the trophy the same as MLB fans check out the latest MLB predictions before any match.
The three finalists for the award this season were Trevor Zegras, forward on the Anaheim Ducks, Moritz Seider, a defenseman on the Detroit Redwings, and Micheal Bunting, forward on the Toronto Maple Leafs. All three finalists had phenomenal seasons as they all produced an absurd number of points for their first year in the league.
The Three Finalists
Trevor Zegras had himself quite the rookie season as he recorded 23 goals and 38 assists for 61 total points this season. Zegras, who was drafted in 2019 in the first round, brought a new element of skill to the league this season. Zegras is a phenomenal playmaker and It would not surprise me if he has over 100 points in a season in the future.
Micheal Bunting also played very solid this season between Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. Bunting, who was an older rookie age, had 23 goals and 40 assists for 63 points this year. Bunting was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL draft. Bunting has found some very nice chemistry with Matthews and Marner, those three in my opinion will be linemates for a very long time.
Moritz Seider was an absolute stud for the Detroit Redwings on defense. The rookie defenseman led the defense of the Wings in points this season. Seider this season had 7 goals and 43 shots for 50 points all together this season. Seider was the Redwings steal of the draft in 2019 as he was drafted 6th overall. Seider has already cemented himself as one of the best defensemen in the NHL already and he already has himself comparisons to become the next Nick Lidstrom. Seider is going to win multiple Norris trophies in his career and I believe he is Detroit’s key piece in their rebuild. If Seider would be in the MLB picks, definitely, his team will be the most priced.
Moritz Seider Wins The Calder Trophy
The winner of this year's 2022 Calder Trophy was Moritz Seider from the Detroit Redwings and I couldn't agree more. Seider was an absolute force this year and he was the only reason why Detroit was relevant this season.
The Redwings, who are one of the worst teams in the NHL, had three very dreadful seasons coming into the 2021-2022 season. The team in 2022 really showed the fanbase of Detroit that there is hope and that came from Seider. Seider was an absolute steal in the draft and many fans question Yzerman why he selected Seider with the 6th overall pick. This pick is looking more brilliant by the day from Yzerman as Seider has solidified himself as the best defenseman on the team.
. Mlb picks and
Seider clocked the most minutes this season for the Redwing's back end as a rookie which is absurd. I believe that Seider is going to dominate the league even more next year. Seider is only 20 years old and still has tons of growth. He dominated in Germany, where he is from, for his whole life and his talent at the NHL level is very promising.
I also thought that Zegras had an outstanding season, but he did not take over games as Seider did. Bunting also played very well, but he was also between Matthews and Marner. Seider was on a very low talented Redwings team and he proved that he was one of the best players on the ice every night regardless of who he was surrounded with, hardly as an MLB player would prove that it’s ready for the World series predictions.
