How ‘Lifafebaaz’ gang duped people: Original notes on top, bottom & in between a bundle of paper

New Delhi, June 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) Three members of a gang of cheats known as 'Gaddibaaz' or 'Lifafebaaz' were arrested on Friday, an official said.

The gang had a unique way of cheating people. They targeted people and persuaded them to exchange brand new wads with loose currency notes. They used to carry a bundle of paper the size of currency notes and keep an original note at the top and bottom of the bundle. They inveigled the people to exchange that bundle for valuables and cash. In order to win the confidence of the victim, they showed the original note from the little corner of the packet. And after receiving the original currency from the targeted person, they fled the spot.

The three accused were identified as Kishan Lal (58), Vijay (42) and Prem Chand (34), all residents of Delhi.

They were arrested after a complaint was lodged at Maidangarhi police station in south Delhi on June 22 where the complainant stated that he went to a bank in Fatehpur Beri and withdrew Rs. 55,000 from his account. When he came out of the bank, three people approached him and asked if he had Rs 4 lakhs in cash. After that, they requested him to deposit the amount in his account and to give the cash to them. "They also showed a bundle of cash (wrapped in a handkerchief) to the complainant after which he handed over Rs 55,000 to them and took the bundle from them. After a while, when the complainant opened the wad, he found paper in the bundle. Meanwhile, the accused persons fled from there," Deputy Commissioner of Police (south district) Benita Mary Jaiker said.

On the statement of the complainant, a case under Section 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Fatehpur Beri police station.

During investigation, the police examined the CCTV footage in the vicinity of the crime spot and found one suspected auto. The details of the auto's ownership were learnt and a raid was conducted at a house but none of the accused was found there.

However, on June 23, the police received a tip-off about the presence of the accused at a specific location, following which a trap was laid and all the three accused were nabbed.
