Pakistan rejects Indian MEA's remarks on Karachi temple incident

By Hamza Ameer

Islamabad, June 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Pakistan government has categorically rejected the remarks made by the spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding the unfortunate incident that took place at a Hindu temple in Karachi.

The statement came after a Hindu temple was vandalised in Karachi, where a mob attacked the statues of deities at Shri Mari Maata located in the Korangi area.

As per reports, the police arrested at least six suspected culprits who entered the temple and vandalised statues. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

The incident has been termed as an angry reaction to the derogatory remarks made by former BJP spokesperson Nurpur Sharma with regard to Prophet Muhammad, which have drawn official condemnation from the Shehbaz Sharif government.

The Pakistan foreign office, responding to the latest statement by the Indian MEA, said its government is taking required action against the perpetrators, unlike how 'violence against Muslims in India is hailed'.

"Unlike the violence against the Muslim community that is orchestrated by religious fanatics who enjoy full patronage of India's state machinery, the government of Pakistan is seized of this matter and action is being taken against the perpetrators," said the Pakistan foreign office.

"An FIR has already been registered against the assailants and efforts are underway to identify and arrest them. They will not escape justice and the government will deal with them with the full force of law," the Pakistan foreign office statement added.

Pakistan reminded India to look inwards before pointing fingers towards Islamabad and raising concerns over protection of fundamental rights.

"The Government of India would be well advised to introspect and ensure the protection of the fundamental rights, lives, and places of worship of minorities across India, particularly Muslims who are facing brutal attacks from the proponents of 'Hindutva' holding on to the reins of power in the country," read the Pakistan foreign office statement.

Pakistan also highlighted Nurpur Sharma's comments and called on India to take decisive action against the BJP leaders responsible for making blasphemous remarks to incite intolerance and extremism.

"Unequivocal condemnation by the BJP top leadership and the Indian government, as well as decisive and demonstrable action against the BJP officials responsible for making sacrilegious remarks recently would be the first step towards healing the suffering of Muslims in India and the sentiments of Muslims worldwide," the statement said.
