Cummins reminds people of their commitment on World Environment Day

Melbourne, June 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) Australia's Test skipper Pat Cummins on Sunday reminded people of their commitment to Earth on 'World Environment Day', saying their contribution today can make a huge difference.

Cummins, whose next assignment will be the five-match One-day International series against Sri Lanka beginning at Kandy from June 14, posted an image of him on Sunday sitting next to an array of solar panels, and tweeted, "Today is World Environment Day. There is #onlyoneearth. One big or small initiative toward our environment, can make a world of difference (symbol of earth)."

Cummins' fans soon began asking if 'cricketforclimate.org' was the bowler's official site for his solar initiative.

"Can you please confirm that 'cricketforclimate.org' is the official site for your solar initiative? Keen to get our local club in Melbourne on board," wrote a fan.

The Kolkata Knight Riders strike bowler is also at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19 in India. In early May this year amid the growing Covid-19 cases in the country, Cummins was spreading the message about the pandemic and calling upon Covid-19 frontline warriors to do everything possible to stop the spread of the disease in India.

He was among the first cricketers in the IPL to recognise the gravity of the situation in India when the country was in the grip of the second wave of the pandemic last year.

He reminded the Indians of their duty once again on May 7 this year when he tweeted an image from last year of packed respirators waiting to be distributed, and wrote, "Like everyone, 12 months ago I was taken (a)back by the dire circumstances being faced by many in my second home, India, due to the impacts from Covid 19 -- especially the critical shortages of oxygen available to patients suffering."

Cummins had returned to Australia midway through IPL 2022 after he suffered a mild hip injury. He featured in five matches for Kolkata, where he set the tournament alight with a record 14-ball half-century to be unbeaten on 56 against Mumbai Indians in Pune after recording figures of 2/49.

But poor showings with the ball meant Cummins didn't turn out for Kolkata till the return match against Mumbai came, picking 3/22 in a 52-run win. Overall, Cummins picked seven wickets in five matches of IPL 2022, at an economy rate of 10.68 while averaging 30.28.
