Upset with job status, Assam man prays for euthanasia

Guwahati, June 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) Aggrieved with the status of his job not getting regularised, a state government employee in Assam's Nagaon district has prayed before the President, Governor of Assam, and Chief Justices of Supreme Court and Gauhati High Court to allow him to go for euthanasia.

Euthanasia is the termination of life by a physician at the patient's request. The aim is to end unbearable suffering with no prospect of improvement.

Dulal Bora, 59, who works as a casual employee in the PWD in the Nagaon district, claimed that his job has not been regularised even after several assurances from the higher authorities.

Bora will turn 60 next year after which he cannot be offered a regular position in the government office.

Upset with the status of his job, Bora has sought permission for euthanasia.

Under strict guidelines, passive euthanasia is legal in the country since 2018. The patients must give consent through a living will, and must be either terminally ill or in a vegetative state for seeking permission for passive euthanasia.
