Himachal hands over probe into constable exam paper leak case to CBI

Shimla, May 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Facing criticism in an election year, the BJP government in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday announced handing over the probe into the police constable exam paper leak case to the CBI.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur made this announcement saying a decision in this regard was taken keeping in mind the sensitivity of the case as 10 suspects do not belong to the state.

Accompanied by cabinet colleagues Suresh Bhardwaj and Mahender Singh, the Chief Minister told the media that 73 arrests, comprising 10 from outside the state, have been made.

"The SIT constituted to probe the case has done a wonderful job. In order to facilitate the probe across India, it was felt that the case should be handed over to the CBI."

He said the government has acted promptly in registering an FIR and constituting a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

He said the mastermind in the case, Shiv Bahadur Singh, has been arrested from Varanasi, besides another accused was arrested from Bihar.
