New Delhi, April 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) A man was arrested at the capital's Indira Gandhi International Airport while trying to smuggle out a large amount of foreign currency, valued over Rs 56 lakh, concealed in a false bottom of his luggage trolley, officials on Friday.
Customs officers said they have booked a case of illegal export of foreign currency on the basis of specific information, against Sumit Kumar, 29, who has been arrested.
"During x-ray of his baggage, some suspicious images were found. On sustained interrogation, Kumar voluntarily admitted that he had concealed foreign currency at the false bottom of his trolley bag. On through personal and baggage search, the currency - $22,000 and UAE dirham 2,00,000, equivalent to Rs 56,89,900 were recovered from the trolley bag," an official said.
The official said that in view of the above, it was clear that the Kumar had violated provisions of section 104 of the Customs Act, read with the provisions of the FEMA.
