Panaji, April 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday issued a public call for volunteers to assist state government agencies for relief work during monsoon-related disasters.
The monsoon season and the Tauktae cyclone last year had wreaked havoc in the state last year, resulting in power and water supply outages for days together and chaos on the roads and streets due to fallen trees, swept off by the stormy winds and rain.
"We are preparing for disaster management in the state. There will be disaster management units active in talukas 24x7 soon. All precautions have been taken," Sawant told reporters after a meeting of the state government's disaster management team.
The meeting on Thursday was chaired by the Chief Minister and attended by Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate, top Revenue Department officials including the Secretary, both the District Collectors and top officials of the Fire and Emergency Services, Police and Water Resources departments.
"If anyone is ready to volunteer to work for disaster management, they should contact the Deputy Collectors. Their voluntary services will be used for disaster management and we will give them a certificate too," the Chief Minister said.
