Canberra, April 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) Anthony Albanese, leader of Australia's opposition Labor Party, on Thursday announced that he has tested positive for Covid-19 while campaigning for next month's general election.
In a series of tweets, Albanese said: "Following a routine PCR test this afternoon ahead of interstate travel to Western Australia, I have returned a positive result for Covid this evening. I have been testing regularly as part of my election campaign duties.
"I will be isolating at home in Sydney for the next seven days and will continue to follow health guidelines and advice.
"While at home I will continue my responsibilities as alternative Prime Minister and will be fighting for a better future for all Australians."
The Labor Party currently leads Prime Minister Scott Morrison's Coalition in opinion polls for the election, which will be held on May 21.
The positive test came fewer than 24 hours after the first leaders' debate in Brisbane, of which Albanese was declared the winner.
