Complaint lodged as newly launched KSRTC-SWIFT bus meets with accident

Thiruvananthapuram, April 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) A day after a KSRTC-SWIFT bus met with an accident just a couple of hours being flagged off by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, KSRTC managing director Biju Prabhakar on Tuesday filed a complaint with the state police chief suspecting a foul play in the incident.

Soon after he filed the complaint, another bus which was on its way to the state capital city also met with an accident at Malappuram.

Raising suspicion of a foul play, the complaint reads that the accident, though minor, should be probed to find out if external forces were behind them.

There is a very strong presence of the private buses in the state which operates numerous long distance services in and to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The bus which was flagged off by Vijayan from here in Kollam district had a brush with a lorry leaving its side view mirrors damaged, while the accident at Malappuram involved a private bus. In both the accidents, the body of the buses have been slightly damaged and paint at a few places scrapped.

KSRTC is one of the biggest employers in the state government with over 35,000 employees and an equal number of pensioners, which operates around 5,000 buses has around 5100 schedules, running on an average 1.6 million kilometres every day.

Today, KSRTC is reeling under its worst ever crisis with massive accumulated losses and salaries and pension rarely given on time, but Vijayan, before flagging of the first service from here, said that KSRTC is slowly moving towards a better future.

Vijayan also said that the state government would extend all the support to lead the KSRTC to its prosperity and it was important for everyone to extend their full support for this cause.

Meanwhile, a few unions of the KSRTC are against this new operation as they allege it would prove to be a death knell for the KSRTC.
