Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided sewing machines and agricultural equipment to NGOs in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
TİKA continues to implement development projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Africa. The Agency provided sewing machines and various pieces of equipment to a vocational center affiliated with the International Council for Justice, Equality and Peace (COJEP International), an NGO operating in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Katchelewa Alima Parfaite, the director of the center, stated that the sewing workshop of the center had one instructor and thirty students, most of whom were divorced women. Parfaite noted that they aimed to ensure the social and economic integration of women through vocational training. Parfaite said that they provided training at the center using the income from the sales of the products such as dresses produced in the workshop and that the training provided at the center helped women find employment opportunities.
As part of another project implemented with COJEP; agricultural equipment, vegetable seeds, and fertilizers were provided to an agricultural cooperative in Kinshasa to support the agricultural activities of the farmers living in the region.
