The National Covid-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO)  Mr. Thabo Ntoi says children are also at the risk of contracting Covid-19, thus urges parents and guardians to ensure that eligible children from ages 12-17 years are fully vaccinated.

Mr. Ntoi said this at a press conference meant to brief the media about the current state of Covid-19 in the country held at Ministry of Health Head Quarters, Maseru today.

He mentioned that at least 77 215 children between the ages of 12 and 17 years have been vaccinated against the virus. Of this, he noted that 44 000 have been fully vaccinated.

He appealed to the nation to continue being cautious, mask up, observe social distance and ensure washing of hands with soap regularly. Moreover, he informed the nation that in Wuhan, China where this virus started, the nation is on lockdown as cases are increasing at a rapid rate.

Even so, he allayed fears of the nation saying for the last four weeks, hospitalisation has been constant and remained at 4%, an indication that Covid-19 is currently under control while the positivity rate is 1%.

In conclusion, he stated that since the start of this virus two years ago, 415 100 people have been tested, 32 775 came out positive while 697 succumbed to the virus.
