The Sam Matekane Foundation, (SMF) on Wednesday handed over 1000 police boots and 1000 full uniform set worth M8 million to the Commissioner of Police(COMPOL) at the event held at Maseru Police Headquarters.

When handing over the donation, the SMF founder, Mr. Sam Matekane said this uniform is a way of encouraging the police to continue to perform their duties with the highest morale.

He expressed hope that this gesture will inspire and improve their services to Basotho and the visitors of Lesotho saying he wants to see Lesotho as a safe country that can attract investors and tourists as this will improve the growth of the economy in the country.

He, therefore, thanked AfriExpo and other relevant stakeholders for making this day a success saying this day would not be a success without their commitment.

When receiving the donation, Commissioner of Police Molibeli Holomo expressed gratitude to the SMF, saying the donation comes at the crucial time when the police are in dire need of a uniform.

He said this uniform is of good quality, saying the police wearing a proper uniform portrays a good image of the country hence the donation will improve the image of the country.

He said this uniform will bring a change to the police force as 1000 police will benefit from this donation.

He stressed that their operation of deploying the police across the town is going to be a success, saying it was not easy to deploy police as there was a shortage of uniforms.

COMPOL Holomo said this donation will help reduce the high rate of crimes, noting that predators fear committing crimes in the presence of police wearing uniforms.

Sam Matekane Foundation is a non-profit making organisation that was founded in 2021 its purpose was to give back to the community.
