Commonwealth Human Rights Unit pays courtesy call on Ambassador Fock Tave

The Head of the Human Rights Unit of the Commonwealth Secretariat, Dr Shavana Haythornthwaite, paid a courtesy call on the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave, on Friday 4th February 2022, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.

Ambassador Fock Tave welcomed and expressed the Government’s gratitude for the Unit’s assistance with an in-country assessment in the area of disability rights. The Principal Secretary further re-affirmed the Government’s commitment to continue engaging with the Commonwealth on all issues of vital and shared interests, notably Human Rights.

Dr Haythornthwaite and her delegation presented the Principal Secretary with their initial findings as a result of the discussions held with relevant stakeholders. The Commonwealth Human Rights Unit has been working in close collaboration with the Elderly and Disabled Persons Division of the Family Affairs Department, to assess the existing capacities and resources of the Government regarding disability rights in Seychelles.

The Human Rights Unit will be compiling their findings in a report which they will then present to the Government for their consideration.
