Minister Radegonde welcomed the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.E Mr Khalid A. Al Salman, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy today. Ambassador Al Salman is accredited to the Republic of Kenya and is based in Nairobi. He is in Seychelles as a Special Envoy of His Highness Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The purpose of his visit is to personally deliver a letter from the His Highness Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud to Minister Sylvestre Radegonde.
The meeting was also a chance to discuss various areas of cooperation between the two countries, mainly in Tourism and projects funded by Saudi Fund for Development in Seychelles throughout the years.
They also spoke of the challenges caused by COVID-19.Minister Radegonde explained that the Tourism industry remains the main pillar of Seychelles’ economy. Minister Radegonde noted that Saudi Arabia is an important source market for the Seychelles tourism sector. Although, Seychelles acknowledges the measures taken by the Saudi Arabian government and the importance of protecting its citizens from COVID-19. Minister Radegonde reassured the Ambassador that Seychelles remains a safe destination, respecting all health protocols in hotels and other touristic areas.
Also present at the meeting were Principal Secretary for Tourism, Mrs Sherin Francis, Director General for Bilateral Affairs and senior official of the Foreign Affairs Department.
