Baahubali is possibly one of the best films ever to be made in Indian cinema and it most certainly is one of the path-breaking films which erased the barrier between South Indian cinema and Bollywood. Understanding the humongous reach that the Baahubali duology enjoyed across the nation, Netflix set out to produce a web series titled Baahubali: Before The Beginning. This series was supposedly the prequel for the Baahubali duology. Netflix had even allotted a massive budget for this mega project. But sadly for them, things never really went their way.
Netflix initially roped in Telugu filmmakers Deva Katta and Praveen Sattaru to work on Baahubali: Before the Beginning series. But after facing compatibility issues, both Deva and Praveen walked out of the project. This was some 3 years ago. The word is that the two filmmakers felt Netflix wasn't giving them enough time to pen the script for the series.
Unfazed by the same, Netflix then roped in a special team to conceive the project all over again. They employed a team of writers and showrunners to produce the series. Bollywood actress Mrunal Thakur was reportedly onboarded to play the iconic Sivagami character in the series and it was also heard that several top-billed technicians were roped in to work on the revamped version. All in all, Netflix reportedly spent to the tune of Rs 150 crores on the mega project, which they felt would be the flagship Indian show on the platform. But it wasn't to be.
Netflix is apparently displeased with the output generated by the team and they have decided to scrap the project for good. Netflix is no longer willing to fund Baahubali: Before The Beginning and the project is called off. Thus bringing an end to Netflix's sad love story with the Baahubali OTT series. Despite Netflix's multiple attempts to roll out the series, it simply wasn't to be.
