H.E. Sophie Gladima honored the opening of the second of the MSGBC Oil, Gas and Power 2021 Conference & Exhibition, Senegal’s largest energy event, with an address to an audience of Ministers, CEOs and VIPs on Friday, with a message directed at uniting Africa’s participation at 2022's COP27 climate summit.
“It’s together that we find the solutions for the challenges ahead. We must be united in our vision and our ambitions. When we head to the COP 27 next year, with H.E. President Macky Sall at the head of the African Union, we must go with a common African voice, to defend Africa’s interests and vision for the years ahead,” the Minister declared.
The Minister further commented on the many opportunities present in Senegal’s developing energy landscape and how those resources will play a part in the country’s climate commitments. Further, she praised the value of the discussions held during this historic conference and celebrated the growing role of women in the energy sector.
“I would like to reinforce the importance of the topics discussed here yesterday and today, and the fundamental role of this gathering for the growth of our industry. It is also with great pleasure that I celebrate all the women participating in these panels. Increasing the number of women in the energy sector is fundamental for the future of the industry and I appeal to trainers and educators to help drive Africa’s youth to take their place within this great sector,” she concluded.
