The trailer of the much-awaited Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor-starrer sports drama film “Jersey” was released on the social media by the makers on November 23.
What is in the trailer
At the beginning of the trailer, Shahid Kapoor is without a job and asks his wife, role played by Mrunal Thakur, five hundred rupees so that he could buy a jersey as a gift for his cricket-loving son who longed to wear one for a long time.
As Shahid Kapoor, passing through financial troubles, did not get the money needed to fulfil his son’s wish on his birthday, he tries to steal the hard-earned money of his wife and gets caught by her.
This ex-cricketer’s former coach, played by his real-life father Pankaj Kapur, tells him that he could take up the post of an assistant coach at a cricket club to overcome his financial situation.
The trailer then shows Pankaj Kapur talking to Shahid how full of life he was when he was on the ground in his youth and the big role he played in the cricket team. This forces Shahid to think about coming back to cricket ground. Now here, a few glimpses of the talented cricketer that he was, are shown and also some scenes of the young Shahid getting into fights with other players.
Now, it is time for him to choose between developing a bad impression about him for his son, or get back to cricket ground and fulfil his dream of playing for the country and making his son proud.
In this struggling situation, he decides to follow his passion and his dream against the wishes of his wife who thinks he is past his age and would not be able to create the same magic again.
At the end of the trailer, Shahid in an act that gives goosebumps shouts at the top of his voice at a railway station as a train goes at high-speed making loud sound. You really feel it when he shouts here.
A clean-shaven much younger looking Shahid is also in the trailer. And, you keep thinking how he was given this youthful college student look.
While the trailer shows the bearded ex-cricketer Shahid, his long hair, his passion, his dream, the father-son relationship, the promising young man, his aggression, anger, fights, love, kiss, Mrunal Thakur’s struggle & charm, his kid’s dream, and glimpses of Pankaj Kapur’s acting abilities, what is missing is the climax. Is it because it is where the best part of the movie lies?
“Jersey” trailer exciting
The “Jersey” trailer is top notch. After Shahid Kapoor proved himself with “Kabir Singh”, people have been waiting for his next. And, in this stunning trailer, the actor looks promising enacting real life struggles, emotion, broken dream, intensity, calmness and the different shades of his character.
With acting that has the power to melt many hearts, Shahid looks unmatchable. In scenes of pain, regret, desire to fight back and courage, Shahid is fabulous and seems to have nailed the role. The scenes where the actor stretches his limits to fulfil his son’s dream are just amazing.
Shahid and his father Pankaj Kapur in the same frame could be a teat to watch.
“Kabir Singh” vibes
Shahid Kapoor’s “Kabir Singh” feel is back again. In the intense, aggression and emotional scenes in “Jersey”, the “Kabir Singh” character seems to have stayed with him even after that movie. He was outstanding in this role.
Shahid got the role he deserves. Looks like another blockbuster for him after two years.

“Jersey” a Telugu remake
Shahid’s “Jersey” is a remake of the original movie in Telugu by the same title. The Telugu original was also directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri. There are huge expectations from the Hindi version as actor Nani in Telugu gave a smashing performance. There will be comparisons. But, Shahid Kapoor is not new to acting in remakes.
With Kabir Singh’s character in “Kabir Singh”, a remake of another Telugu original “Arjun Reddy” in which actor Vijay Deverakonda excelled in the protagonist’s role, Shahid became popular with the masses and the movie was a big blockbuster. In “Jersey”, Shahid may outdo himself. But it is to be seen if he can match original Nani's performance as the Telugu actor set standards high. Shahid having all the potential may nail this role in “Jersey”.
The trailer launch event
“Jersey” trailer was launched on November 23 in Mumbai in an event attended by Shahid Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur, director Gowtam Tinnanuri, presenter Allu Aravind and producers Dil Raju, S Naga Vamsi and Aman Gill. The movie will be released in theatres on December 31 this year.
