Bengal post-poll violence: CBI registers one more case, arrests 3

New Delhi, Nov 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday registered one more case in compliance with the orders of the Calcutta High Court, besides arresting three persons in another ongoing case related to the violence that took place after the Assembly polls in West Bengal earlier this year.

As per the August 19 order of the High Court, the probe agency has taken over the investigation of the case related to the alleged murder of Biswajit Mahesh.

This case was earlier registered at Sabang police station in Paschim Medinipur on May 5. On the night of May 4, Mahesh was allegedly attacked by the accused with an iron rod and sword.

The victim has been found in a pond and was taken to Sabang Hospital where he was declared dead.

In another ongoing case registered by the CBI on September 1, the probe agency has arrested three accused -- Merajul Haque, Entajul Islam and Md. Esrafil Ali alias Ippi.

This case was initially registered at Duttapukur police station, District North 24 Parganas on May 3 on the allegations that the accused got hold of the victim and family members while they were working in their field on the same day.It was further alleged that the accused attacked them with firearms, bombs, and 'lathi', and the victim died during the attack.

The arrested accused were produced on Tuesday before the Court and were remanded to three days in police custody.

The Calcutta High Court had recently handed over the investigation of serious crimes such as rape and murder during the post-poll violence in West Bengal to the CBI.

Similarly, the division bench of the high court also formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the lesser crimes that occurred after the declaration of Assembly election results in Bengal on May 2.
