The summit is the final stop on Mr. Biden's first international trip as president, during which he has sought to rally European allies in defense of democracy against authoritarian regimes.
At a news conference after the G-7 summit, days before his meeting with Putin, Mr. Biden said he agreed with the Russian president that U.S.-Russia relations are at a "low point," but acknowledged there are areas in which the two countries can work together.
Mr. Biden also said ahead of the meeting that he would address the recent ransomware attacks in the U.S. committed by hackers that U.S. officials say are in Russia.
