Actor Diljohn Singh has been seen in movies like De De Pyaar De, Jawaani Janeman, Gold, and Angrezi Medium and recently in The Girl on the train. Here he talks about his love for theatre and more.
Talking about theatre he says, "I think theatre should be every actor's, first love. It can be exhausting, strenuous, and demands the best from an actor. But it breaks their comfort zone but it's worth it. In layman's terms with regards to current Indian film industry terms, the rehearsal room is like training oneself physically to get perfect 6 or 8 packs(no disrespect here for who does as it's bloody hard to come from a food buff). But in theatre, instead of just one facet of your body, you end up training every element of it, and instead of getting a perfect packaged full selfie, you feel honored to just take the first step on the stage and start your soliloquy or take that final bow in the end. Your mind, body, and soul are in unison. There are always good days and bad days in theatre but there never will be a day without learning which is the best aspect and as an actor one should always be open and ready to soak from its surroundings be it on stage, reel, or real life. And one thing this pandemic has taught us is that how valuable to us is our live human connection, theatre as a source of free flow of creativity and human connection is duly missed amidst lockdown.
Sharing some of his favorite parts of the play he has been part of he says, "So far I have played my favorite parts on stage-" The character of Humayun in Guards at the Taj and Manohar Lal in Child of the Divide".
Further talking about how he balances both working on projects and doing theatre he says," I think I would give credit for that to my agent for making sure it's possible. Of course one has to be proactive from their end and take chances but in the end, a lot comes down to making the right choices under the right guidance which I think I do have around me. A good support bubble is a key I suppose and I am blessed to have that family, friend's agent, and a pooch.
