Not planning to postpone release date of ‘Thalaivi’ due to rising Covid-19 cases says Kangana Ranaut

Actress Kangana Ranaut, who is portraying role of late actress and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalithaa in a film titled ‘Thalaivi’, has made clear that makers of the biographical are not planning to postpone release date of their film due to surge in Covid-19 cases across the country. She said that people need to collectively deal with the situation and also hoped that things will get during the release of the film.

Kangana Ranaut was interacting with News Helpline to promote ‘Thalaivi’ in Mumbai.

‘Thalaivi’ is scheduled for release on 23 April 2021, when asked Kangana whether makers of ‘Thalaivi’ will postpone the release date of her film like other films due to rising cases of Covid-19 in the country, she said, “No… I don’t think it will happen. I think audiences are ready to watch the film. Whichever films have released after the lockdown has got good responses from the audience. We have to collectively fight with the situation and now the vaccine is also around. We are four weeks away from the film’s release, so we are very hopeful that things will improve and there will be 100 percent occupancy in theatres. In a few areas, we might not be able to do that but we are prepared for it.”

Jayalalitha was one of the leading actresses of Tamil film industry and then she went on to become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, when asked Kangana whether she is also ready to take plunge into politics as she actively expresses her opinion on social and political happenings in the country, she said, “I don’t know anything about politics. If I talk about my country, nationalism and farm laws which affect me directly then people say that I want to become a politician but it is nothing like that. I react to things like a normal citizen of this country.”

Kangana said that while shooting for ‘Thalaivi’ she was going through a difficult time as a lot of things were happening in her personal life, she said, “People are very angry with me because I talk about nationalism or farm laws. They have the freedom to talk about any issue of the country but when I talk about certain issues then they think that how I dared to talk about those things, so it’s their problem. They did horrible things to me over the past few months. Makers of this film built sets of parliament and assembly while shooting and we shot a few scenes where Jayalalitha ma is getting assaulted there and at that time, I was also going through similar turmoil in my personal life, so it was a very uncanny experience for me. I thought that reel and real life has blended into each other.”

Kangana added, “Nobody cared about me before 2014 but since I have become successful in films, I have experienced a lot of friction from the film industry, media and politics. I might be too confrontational or outspoken but it’s been a very traumatic time for me ever since my films have started doing well. But I am happy that I was again announced as a best actress at the National Film Awards around my birthday and now, my film is releasing and I got a really nice team who is backing me for this film.”

Apart from ‘Thalaivi’, Kangana will feature in Razneesh Ghai’s action-drama film ‘Dhaakad’, and Sarvesh Mewara’s war-drama film ‘Tejas’.
