It’s a high time that we should turn electric when it comes to manufacturing vehicles says Vivek Oberoi

Actor Vivek Oberoi, who confesses being an auto junkie, has said that it’s a high time that Indian auto-mobile industry should start manufacturing electric vehicles as the prices of diesel and petrol are increasing day by day. He also added that he is involved in start-up companies which are working towards manufacturing electric cars and motor bikes.

Vivek Oberoi was interacting with News Helpline at the 7th edition of Mid-Day Auto-Expo on Saturday in Mumbai.

Prices of petrol and diesel are increasing in the country on a daily basis, so when asked Vivek whether he feels that electric vehicles will be the future of India, he said, “I agree 100 percent with it! I think if this (electric vehicles) comes into reality then there will be nothing bigger than that for our country. I feel we can become world leaders in solar energy. Today, our country is importing oil and gas worth Rs. 6,00,000 to 7,00,000 crores and then we crib about our economy going down. If we stop importing oil then we can save that money and we can build our economy in a strong manner, so I think it's high time that we should turn electric when it comes to manufacturing of vehicles.”

Talking about his love for cars and bikes, Vivek said, “I am a huge automobile junkie as I am really fond of

bikes and cars, so I have come here to support the auto-mobile industry and our friends in the media. I have been in love with cars since my childhood. There are a lot of boys who used to look up to their fathers in their childhood when it comes to riding a bike or driving a car. When we were growing up, there wasn’t much variety of cars in our country but today, India’s automobile sector has become so vibrant that every brand of the world wishes to create their market in our country.”

Vivek added saying that he is involved in start-up companies who are into manufacturing electric vehicles, he said, “I think it is a great thing for India as a country and I feel really happy that cars which have been manufactured in India are able to compete in the international market. It’s a great time because now it’s the era of electric vehicles. I am involved with many start-ups as a co-founder and a chief strategy officer that are trying to manufacture electric motor bikes, cars and commercial vehicles. I feel India is going to be a big hub for green technology as our country is stepping into solar energy, so I see the future as clean, green and Indian!”

Talking about his upcoming projects, “I have completed shooting a few of my projects which were incomplete due to lockdown. We have completed shooting of season 3 of ‘Inside Edge’ and now, we are gearing up to promote the show and it will release in the next quarter on Amazon Prime Videos, so I am excited about it. I am working on 3 to 4 projects at the moment. I will make an announcement about one of the projects at the end of March or in the beginning of April. I am working as a producer and as an actor in a few of them, so it’s a great time to be in the business.”

Talking about film releasing in theatres, Vivek said, “I think we are in an adjusting phase at the moment but I am glad that ‘Roohi’ is getting good response from the audience in theatres. My friend Sanjay Gupta’s film ‘Mumbai Saga’ is releasing on 19th March which stars John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi, so I am wishing them all the best for their film’s release. Entire film industry, film exhibitors and theatre owners have suffered a lot during the period of lockdown, so I hope that people start coming to theatres to watch films.”

Apart from ‘Inside Edge 3’, Vivek Oberoi will next be seen in Vishal Mishra’s horror thriller film ‘Rosie The Saffron Chapter’ along with Palak Tiwari. He will also feature in the whodunit thriller ‘'Iti: Can You Solve Your Own Murder?' alongside Rajeev Sen, Ankita Lokhande and Taher Shabbir.
