CBI court sends ex-Director of Telecom in UP to 3-year jail

Lucknow/New Delhi, Feb 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Almost 33 years after the case of corruption, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court here has sentenced D.P. Srivastava, then Director of North Area, Telecom posted in Bareilly to undergo three years imprisonment in a corruption case.

A CBI spokesperson in Delhi said that a Special CBI Judge sentenced Srivatsava to three years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 70,000 and Delhi-based Pradeep Godhwani, partner of Grand Timber Industries to undergo the imprisonment with a fine of Rs 50,000.

 

The CBI had registered a case against Srivastava and others including Grand Timber Industries.

It was alleged that while functioning as Director (North Area) Telecom in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly during the year 1987, Srivatsava entered into a conspiracy in connivance with Godhwani, partner of Grand Timber Industries and others and placed two purchase orders at exorbitant rate or price on the basis of forged tender memo with the intention to cheat the Central government to the tune of Rs 44.43 lakh.

The official said the agency filed a charge sheet against the accused. After trial, the court found both the accused guilty and convicted them.
