Karan Razdan’s upcoming film will be very different from earlier student politics films says Ankit Raj

Television actor Ankit Raj, who will next be seen in filmmaker Karan Razdan’s untitled film, has said that his forthcoming film will be very different from student politics films which were made earlier in Hindi film industry. He added saying that there are also very emotional moments where people will cry after watching friendship of two leading male characters and there are a lot of things which people will take away after watching the film.

Ankit Raj was interacting with News Helpline on Friday in Mumbai.

Earlier, Bollywood  has made some notable films which revolved around student politics such as ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Shiva’, Gulaal’, ‘Haasil ‘,‘Raanjhana and ‘Yuva’. Recently makers also showed student politics in digital shows like ‘Mirapur’ and ‘Tandav’.

When asked Ankit how his film will be different from earlier films and web series which revolved around student politics, he said, “This film will be very different from earlier films which revolved around student politics but I can’t talk about it in detail. We will start shooting the film very soon, so I am sure that gradually the audience will get to know more about the film. I feel Karan (Razdan) sir’s writing is very different and it’s not like regular writing which we see here and there, so I think you will see a different film at a very larger scale.”

Talking about the storyline of the film, Ankit said, “Karan Razdan is a well known writer who has written screenplay of films like ‘Dilwale’, ‘Diljale’ and many others. He wanted me to play one of the lead roles in his upcoming film. The whole project is about childhood friendship, love, politics and religion. It’s a story of two characters who have been friends since childhood but how their ideology changes when they go to university. I am playing the role of Sameer and Ashish Sharma is playing the role of Bharat in the film. Sonarika Bhadoria is playing the role of Sapna who is my girlfriend in the film.”

He added “I am one of the political party’s leaders in University, so you (audience) will see a lot of politics in the whole movie. We have seen there are two different ideologies in the campus of every university, so you will see two people who are very firm on their political ideologies. They don’t bow down in front of each other, so it’s about two powerful people competing against each other.”

Razdan is known for directing films with controversial themes like Girlfriend (2004), Hawas (2004) and Souten: The Other Woman (2006). His forthcoming film reportedly revolves around the controversial concept of love jihad, when asked Ankit whether the film's team is ready to deal with controversies relating to the film, he said, “When I met Karan (Razdan) sir, I already knew his profile and about his work. I feel every publicity or controversy is good for a movie. Having said that, I feel this is a very pure story from his heart. There are very emotional moments when people will cry after watching the friendship of these two male characters and there are a lot of things which people will take away after watching the film, so I am ready for any kind of response from the audience.”

The film stars Ankit Raj, Ashish Sharma, Sonarika Bhadoria, Anup Jalota and Deepika Chikhalia in key roles. It is written and directed by Karan Razdan.
