The AP High Court on Thursday struck down the single judges verdict on schedule for panchayat elections announced by the State Election Commission (SEC). The SEC issued a notification for conducting panchayat polls in February. The AP government had filed a petition in the High Court expressing its inability to extend support to the SEC for holding panchayat elections as the entire state machinery is involved in the coronavirus vaccination drive.
Even, employees unions have met Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan and submitted a memorandum urging him to use his powers for postponement of panchayat elections. The AP government would be challenging the High Court judgement in the Supreme Court.
