Delhi HC asks govt to treat plea on postponement of nursery admissions as representation

New Delhi, Jan 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi High Court on Monday directed the Delhi government to treat as representation a plea seeking postponement of the admission process for the nursery class for the 2021-22 academic session amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

A single-judge bench of the high court presided by Justice Prateek Jalan disposed off the matter after recording the statement of the Delhi government's counsel.

Delhi government counsel Ramesh Singh submitted before the bench that the information or opinion provided by the petitioner in his representation will be taken into account while framing guidelines or taking any decision with regard to nursery admissions.

The plea filed by advocate Rajat Vats states that outbreak of COVID-19 has led to threatening situation for the entire humanity across the world that resulted in deaths of lakhs of people and is creating hardship for millions of people across the globe.

The petitioner sought the court's direction to the authorities to pass resolution or issue guidelines directing schools not to grant admissions for nursery classes for the session 2021-2022 for the age group of (3-4 years).

It said that purpose of nursery education is to make the child familiar with school and their sitting environment with physical and emotional activity of the children and it cannot be done by online courses or by physical opening of schools because of COVID-19.
