Will reveal facts about Srinagar encounter at appropriate time: J&K L-G

Jammu, Jan 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha said on Thursday that he will come up with facts about the Lawaypora (Srinagar) encounter at an appropriate time.

The families of the three youths killed in an encounter with the security forces in Lawaypora, the outskirts of Srinagar city, have alleged that the youths were innocent and had been killed in a stage-managed encounter.

The families have since been protesting that the bodies of the three youths, who were reportedly buried by the security forces in the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district, be handed over to them for a proper and formal burial.

The families have also demanded an impartial judicial probe into the killings of their wards.

"Let me tell you that J&K is a very sensitive union territory. I have noted all the versions, including that of the forces and the families of the three slain youth. I will come up with facts before you at an appropriate time", Sinha was quoted saying so by a local news agency.

Reacting to the demands of the family and the growing support the families have been getting from various political organisations, J&K Police have issued a statement saying, "Lawaypora Srinagar encounter started with army inputs and eventually fructified into a joint operation of army, CRPF and the police.

"After the cordon was laid, terrorists lobbed grenades from inside and fired upon the search party. Although as per the SOP, terrorists were repeatedly appealed by the troops to surrender in the evening and again in the morning, however, instead of surrendering, they fired upon the troops and eventually got neutralised in a firefight".

J&K Police chief Dilbag Singh has said, "I have no reason to dispute what the GOC Kilo Force has stated about the Lawaypora encounter. The families of the two slain youth claimed that their children had gone to submit forms at the University, I want to ask them what were their children doing at the encounter site if they had gone to submit forms at the University".

The Lawaypora encounter took place on December 29 when the Rashtriya Rifles unit launched an operation on the basis of specific inputs.

Three slain youths from south Kashmir were identified as Ajaz Maqbool Ganie and Ather Mushtaq, both from Pulwama district and Zubair Ahmad Lone from Shopian district.

Of these, Ather Maqbool was 16-year-old and the family said he was a class 11 student.
