Expert: Grounds exist to invoke 25th Amendment (Video)

A University of Chicago law professor says there are grounds for Vice President Pence and the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump, but he thinks it's unlikely to happen. (Jan. 7)

There's is no question that the events of yesterday are grounds for Vice President Pence and the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, says University of Chicago law professor Jonathan Masur.

Invoking the 25th Amendment in this case would require action by Vice President Pence as an initial step, and it would require support from the members of Trump's cabinet.

Masur says that's possible, but unlikely, given the vice president's record of loyalty to the president.

If the amendment were invoked, Masur says Trump would not be removed from office or from the White House. He would continue to be the president, but all of the powers of the presidency would shift to the vice president.
