‘Agreed Position’ has clear space for Naga flag: NNPG

New Delhi, Dec 19 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Naga flag remains within the ambit of the Government of India (GoI) and the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups' (NNPGs) 'Agreed Position'.

Every sovereign, independent nation in the world is identified and recognised by its flag and constitution. However, since Nagas and Indians will co-exist, the Naga flag will be honoured and given the due respect and space it deserves, NNPGs said in a statement.

"The flag has a cultural and spiritual significance. It is Naga identity. Above all, it is a covenant between god and the Naga people and so it will be an integral part of the Indo-Naga solution. This, the GoI has clearly been told and reminded on the negotiation table," it said.

Therefore, on the eve of political solution, the Working Committee of the NNPGs has encouraged all Naga tribal bodies to place Naga flags in cultural and traditional institutions such as in Morungs and village customary courts or in the residences of village chiefs, it added.

The Working Committee urged the Naga people not to be confused on the issue of flag. The GoI respects and honours Naga sentiment, spiritual orientation and cultural identity that the flag denotes.

"It is wrong to seek GoI's permission on its usage. The destabilising propaganda at play behind Naga flag and constitution is a greater mischief against Naga tribes and the general public," it added.
