The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has sent a notice to director-producer Karan Johar in connection with a video of a 2019 party organised by him which had gone viral on social media.
NCB in September had received a complaint from Siromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa demanding a probe into the matter, claiming celebrities used drugs at the said party. The central office then forwarded the complaint to its Mumbai zonal unit for further action.
Karan Johar has to respond to the notice by December 18. The notice was sent on December 16. The director-producer isn't required to appear physically at the NCB office. He can send his representative. Based on Sirsa’s complaint, Mumbai NCB has sent a notice asking Karan Johar about the whereabouts of the get-together including questions like-- the list of actor and actresses in this party, when the party took place, what drugs were used, the video shot by Karan was recorded by which camera, etc.
The party was attended by several A-list celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Zoya Akhtar, Malaika Arora, Arjun Kapoor, Ayan Mukerji, Shakun Batra, Rohit Dhawan, among others.
In September, Karan Johar issued a detailed statement on his social media over his alleged drug-links in Bollywood. In the statement, he claimed that he neither consumes narcotics nor promotes or encourages consumption of any such substance.
NCB is already investigating the Bollywood-drug nexus case, after a drug angle surfaced in the investigation linked to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June.
On work front, Johar will be directing the big budget historical drama film ‘Takht’ which stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles.
Johar’s production house Dharma Productions is producing several films in the coming period which includes ‘Sooryavanshi’, ‘Shershaah’, ‘Dostana 2’, ‘Jug Jugg Jeeyo’,’ Fighter’, ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’ and Shakun Batra’s untitled film starring Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday.
