Lukewarm response to shutdown call in Gurugram, cops keep wary eye

Gurugram, Dec 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) The 'Bharat Bandh' called by farmers was lukewarm in Gurugram district on Tuesday morning, with no untoward incident reported so far. Traffic flow on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway was also smooth even as Gurugram police kept a wary eye across the district.

Markets across the district, including Gurugram city, are likely to remain open and business activities to remain operational as industries and market associations said they will not participate in the shutdown.

The transport sector will continue to operate as usual, with normal movement of goods.

Representatives of market and industry associations said that there was no justification for a 'Bharat Bandh' when farmer leaders were holding talks with the government.

"Sympathies of traders and transporters in the district are with the farmers, as they are a very important part of the country just like traders and transporters. We hope that the dialogue between the government and the farmer leaders will lead to positive results," said an industry representative.

In Gurugram, though Sadar Bazar Market Association, Manesar Industries Association and transporters' organisation have decided not to join the bandh, sources claimed that workers from Manesar industries could join the 'Bharat Bandh'.

The workers planned to come out on the expressway and march towards the Mini- Secretariat near the Rajiv Chowk here.

A posse of police along with traffic personnel have been deployed on the expressway to facilitate smooth traffic movement.

"We have deployed our forces for security. Nobody will be allowed to disrupt traffic. Till now, in Gurugram, the situation is normal," said Usha Kundu, ACP (Headquarters).
