Farmers are struggling against the new farm laws imposed by the government. They are on protest in Jantar Mantar till they don't reach a decision. The farmers, agitating for the last two and a half months, are hoping for a positive result soon.
Actor Sonam Kapoor Ahuja supporting the farmers urged her fans to march towards Delhi to support the farmers. Along the Prem Ratan Dhan Payo shared the post of Daniel Webster.
The Instagram feed of Sonam read, “When tillage begins, other arts follow. The farmers, therefore, are the founders of human civilization’. Daniel Webster #dillichalo”
Anand Ahuja also shared a long note, which talked about the real issue. It read, “The idea behind “free market” / letting farmers sell directly (not via middlemen) is in itself understandable...but in striving for a more efficient process we MUST address the fears of the farmers - (1) Is there a mechanism which can provide the safety net that a minimum price guarantee provides? (2) How do we police private enterprises from ‘strong-arming’ farmers into unfavorable scenarios? (3) What are the checks and balances that prevent corruption from poisoning the system and jeopardizing the livelihoods of the farmers who are the heart of our nation!?... Only once these - amongst various other - concerns are addressed should any changes be implemented”
About the protest, the farmers are protesting against the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
Enacted in September, the three farm laws have been projected by the government as major reforms in the agriculture sector that will remove the middlemen and allow farmers to sell anywhere in the country.
However, the protesting farmers have expressed apprehension that the new laws would pave the way for eliminating the safety cushion of Minimum Support Price and do away with the mandis, leaving them at the mercy of big corporates.
