KCR BJP || Five Mistakes Of KCR Led To BJP Rise ||
With the counting of votes for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election underway, results have been declared for 75 divisions.
At 5.15 pm, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leads the tally by securing victory in 31 divisions, followed by the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti(TRS) party which has won 26 divisions. The Bharatiya Janata Party, which aspires to emerge as the main challenger to TRS, has won 16 divisions so far. The Congress, which has been pushed to the sidelines, has two divisions to its credit.
The results of the elections will determine the fate of 1,122 candidates in 150 divisions of the civic body. This year, the Mayors post is reserved for a woman. The counting of votes is likely to be slower than usual as the SEC opted to use ballot papers for the elections in light of Covid-19. In fact, the poll body has made elaborate arrangements to ensure the safety of poll workers.
Earlier on Friday, the Telangana High Court kept in abeyance an order of the Telangana State Election Commission that allowed counting of ballot papers with distinguishing markings instead of the arrow cross-mark rubber stamp as valid votes. It, however, allowed counting of votes to continue. The HC posted the matter for further hearing on Monday.
Though the run-up to the polls saw a high-pitched campaign by the parties, the turnout of the voters on December 1 was an unimpressive 46.55 per cent (34.50 lakh) out of the total 74.67 lakh voters. (Also read: Whats at stake for the TRS and BJP in the GHMC polls?)
