The demise of actor Bala Singh was a great loss to the Tamil film industry. Malayalee director Nirmal Baby Varghese shared his memories of Bala Singh on his first death anniversary. Nirmal has shared his experiences on the set of the Malayalam movie Kalippu (Bala Singh’s last Malayalam movie) through his Facebook post.

He wrote, “For the first time when I met him (2017) on the set of Kalippu, where I was the spot & associate editor, I had no idea who he was. As I googled his name I got to know him and how famous he was. Starting with the 1983 film 'Malamukalile Daivam' he has acted in over 100 films in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu. He was a wonderful actor and a simple person. Even as a senior actor, he came close in his spare time and looked curiously at the editing screen.. I miss him very much. Thanks to editor Aneesh Kumar & director Jessen Joseph for the opportunity to work with him..”

Bala Singh made his acting debut in the Malayalam film 'Malamukalile Daivam' in 1983 and made his Tamil debut in 1995 with Nasser's 'Avatharam'. He has acted in hundreds of films in Tamil and Malayalam. Bala Singh is famous for his villainous roles in many films including Indian, Ullasam, Simmarasi, Dheena, Virumandi, Sami, Kannil Muthamittal and Puthupettai.

He died on 27 November 2019 at Chennai due to Cardiac arrest. According to reports, the actor was undergoing treatment in a private hospital after showing signs of breathing trouble. An alumnus of the National School of Drama, Bala Singh started his career as a theatre artiste. His most notable performance came in Pudhupettai, where he played a local don called Anbu.

Nirmal, a native of Kavummannam, Wayanad. He recently directed a documentary film 'Thariode' about the gold mining history of Malabar. He already announced a fictionalization of Thariode, starring Australian-British actor Bill Hutchens. Cinematic remake is titled as "Thariode: The Lost City", it also stars Luing Andrews, Alexx O'Nell, Courtney Sanello, Amelie Leroy and Brendan Byrne and legendary actor Roger Ward in supporting roles. Currently he is in post-production stage of his directorial Vazhiye. This is a ‘found-footage’ horror film. Vazhiye is the first malayalam movie to be entirely done in the ‘found-footage’ style of filming. All the actors are debutants. Hollywood Music Director Evan Evans is the music director of this film.
