Veteran writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar on Tuesday filed a criminal complaint against actor Kangana Ranaut in a local court for allegedly making defamatory and baseless comments against him in television interviews. Akhtar filed the complaint before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate, seeking action against Ranaut under the relevant provisions of the IPC for defamation. Reacting to the development, Kangana Ranaut called herself a tigress and her opponents as pack of wolves on social media on Tuesday.
As per the complaint, Ranuat had recently made certain baseless comments on Akhtar which has caused damage to the reputation of the veteran poet-lyricist. It added that Ranaut dragged Akhtar’s name while referring to a “coterie” existing in Bollywood following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June.
Shiv Sena’s chief spokesperson and MP Sanjay Raut tweeted about this particular news on his Twitter timeline, sharing his tweet, Kagnana wrote in Hindi “Ek Thi Sherni....Aur Ek Bhediyo Ka Jhund! (There was one tigress and others were pack of wolves)”.
In one of her television interviews, Kangana claimed that Akhtar had threatened her to not speak about her alleged relationship with actor Hrithik Roshan, it said. All these statements made by Ranaut have garnered views in lakhs and thus tarnished Akhtar’s reputation, the complaint said.
Kangana has also been engaged in war of words with Maharashtra’s chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut since the time Mumbai civic agency BMC has demolished Kangana’s office in Mumbai claiming that it was an illegal construction. Kangana had slammed Mumbai police for their alleged incompetence in the investigation of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case. She referred Mumbai as ‘Pak Occupied Kashmir’ and she was heavily trolled for her remarks on social media.
Kangana Ranaut has also been criticising sections of Bollywood over nepotism and lack of transparency. After Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai home in June, Kangana Ranaut had released a two-minute video speaking highly of him and alleging that he was a victim of nepotism in the film industry.
In a separate matter, the Mumbai Police today issued notice to Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel to appear before them on November 10 and November 11 in connection with a case of allegedly promoting enmity between communities through their remarks.
A case has been filed against the actor with Bandra police station for alleged provocative speech.
On October 21, the duo was issued notice asking them to appear before officials to record statements in the case. However, Kangana Ranaut's lawyer responded then saying she was in Himachal Pradesh and busy with the wedding preparations of her cousin brother.
