Some Canadian provinces mull more stringent Covid-19 curbs

Ottawa, Nov 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) Amid an ongoing second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Canada, some of the country's provinces were considering additional stringent measures to stem the spread of the disease.

Canada has so far reported a total of 239,143 confirmed cases and 10,202 deaths, Xinhua news agency reported.

The latest national-level data has indicated a daily average of 2,771 new cases over the past seven days, the Public Health Agency of Canada said on Monday.

Quebec province reported 1,037 new cases on Monday and 12 more deaths, bringing the provincial tallies to 108,018 cases and 6,283 deaths.

Ontario province announced 948 new cases. The province's seven-day average number of cases now sits at an all-time high of 919.

The Ontario government will reportedly unveil a new tiered system for Covid-19 restrictions that will give municipalities and public health units clear criteria for when to impose lockdowns and closures.

Each tier would carry a more stringent set of measures ranging from no restrictions whatsoever, to a full lockdown for the regions that have unmanageable infection rates.

Manitoba confirmed 241 new cases on Monday, bringing the total number of infections in the province since the start of the pandemic to 6,275.

The Manitoba government said it is giving "serious consideration" to imposing a curfew to stop people from gathering in large groups.

British Columbia warned that the number of confirmed cases recorded over this weekend in the province will be significant, following record numbers last week.

The province recorded a seven-day daily average of 254 cases as of October 30.

The provincial government issued a public health order limiting gatherings at private homes to members of a household and six guests.

The order includes indoor and outdoor gatherings at private homes.
