K'taka IPS officer resigns, kicks off a row over promotions
Bengaluru, Oct 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Controversial 1989-batch IPS officer Additional Director General of Police P. Ravindranath resigned late night on Wednesday after the government released a promotion list of IPS officers.

He has reportedly alleged that his batch mate and former Bengaluru City police commissioner, T. Sunil Kumar was promoted just a day before his retirement.

Despite calls by IANS to his mobile and office numbers, the police officer did not respond.

When IANS called his office, his office staff confirmed that he had come to office and was attending work.

According to a senior police officer, Ravindranath has a history of resigning from his posts and withdrawing after sometime. "This has become a habit to him. In the last 12 years, he must have resigned thrice including this one," an officer told IANS on the condition of anonymity.

The police officer further added that the officer might be using these resignation tactics to ensure that he too gets the promotion. "He might withdraw his resignation in some time now," the officer quipped.

Ravindranath is no stranger to controversies, he was the one who was caught red-handed by a woman journalist in a coffee shop in 2014 clicking her pictures without her consent. The complaint also stated that he had taken "inappropriate pictures".

He resigned over this episode alleging that then the Bengaluru City police commissioner, Raghavendra Auradkar had fixed him by sending those women to the coffee shop.

As part of the investigation procedure, his mobile phone was seized after a woman journo lodged a complaint. After sometime, he withdrew his resignation and the complaint was also given a silent burial.

In 2008, he resigned for the first time when his leave application was rejected by his immediate boss, B. E. Umapathy, who was then ADGP and Ravindranath was IGP then.

"Both did not enjoy any cordial relations on the work front, when Ravindranath sent his leave application, Umapathy rejected his application. Citing that Umapathy was intentionally harassing him as he had applied medical leave to attend some medical urgency," an officer disclosed and added that after sometime protest, he withdrew his resignation.
