Kolkata, Oct 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, who was shot at by a Trinamool Congress (TMC) activist in West Bengal's Howrah district on the night of October 24, died at the state-run NRS Hospital here on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Chandanapara under the Bagnan police station area when 52-year-old flower trader Kinkar Majhi was returning home. His family members have alleged that a local Trinamool Congress worker, Paritosh Majhi, and some others stopped Kinkar on the way and shot him from a close range over an old land dispute.
The miscreants fled the scene as villagers came out of their homes listening to the sound of gunshots. The injured was admitted to the Uluberia super-specialty hospital from where he was shifted to the NRS in Kolkata.
"It has been more than 72 hours now and the police have not been able to arrest the accused. We want justice for my brother. We want Paritosh Majhi to be punished for the killing," said Kinkar Majhi's younger brother.
Meanwhile, villagers, backed by local BJP activists, staged a sit-in protest at Benapur main road on Wednesday demanding the arrest of Trinamool Congress-backed Paritosh Majhi and his team of miscreants. Later, the police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the agitating crowd and allow smooth vehicular movement on the road.
