New Delhi, Oct 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) : Soon after the Vice Chancellor of the Delhi University was suspended after the nod by President Ram Nath Kovind, the Teachers Association of the Central University has termed this as a "welcoming move"
Speaking to IANS over the phone, Rajib Ray, President, Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) said, "DUTA had been demanding the removal of Mr Yogesh Tyagi since last year. Though the move has come much later but we would like to call it a delayed but welcoming move."
"On 27.06.2019, DUTA had submitted a ten page white-paper to the MHRD and the visitor of the University (President of India) highlighting the so called misgovernance and mischief of the Vice Chancellor. In fact, the last line of the white paper was that the removal of the Vice Chancellor would restore normalcy in the University," Ray said.
Meanwhile, the Delhi University Students Union termed the said so-called tussle between the senior administration is "unfortunate" and "uncalled for" especially at a time when the admission process in the varsity is already underway and the country is already dealing with a global pandemic.
Speaking to IANS, Delhi University Students Union President Akshit Dhaiya said, "It is unfortunate to see administrators having more than 40 years of experience fighting like this. It is also condemnable because it's the time of admissions and the students have just started to adopt the mode of online teaching."
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi has been suspended on President Ram Nath Kovind's orders, the union education ministry said on Wednesday, amid a major row over appointments that spawned an ugly power tussle.
The order came a day after the President allowed the education ministry to initiate an inquiry against Tyagi. On Tuesday night, the President allowed the inquiry against the vice chancellor who was accused of "misconduct" and "dereliction of duty" by the ministry.
Meanwhile, Professor P.C. Joshi, the acting VC of the university will take over as vice chancellor till the next VC is appointed. Besides, the orders issued by now-suspended varsity's VC Tyagi during his period of absence on medical ground will be treated as null and void.
Tyagi has been on leave since July 2 when he was admitted to Delhi's AIIMS hospital with an emergency medical condition. The government had made Professor PC Joshi the in-charge on July 17, until Mr Tyagi resumed office.
A heated power tussle escalated between the university and the education ministry had started over recent controversial decisions on crucial appointments taken by the VC and their compliance with varsity norms.
The high-voltage drama has been unfolding at DU since last week with two factions of the university supporting two registrars, two pro-vice chancellors, and two directors of South Campus. The controversy erupted when Tyagi removed Joshi as pro-VC and appointed Geeta Bhatt, director of the Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board of the university, in his place.
Later, the education ministry intervened in the controversy reigning between the two factions.
