New Delhi, Oct 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi Police has arrested a gang of fraudsters who had been cheating youths in the name of providing jobs through a fake CPWD website.
The accused have been identified as Amit Kumar, a resident of Lucknow, and Ram Dayal and Gurdeep both residents of Rajasthan.
According to Delhi Police, for the past two years, naive unemployed youths were being duped by some fraudsters who had created a website similar to the official website of CPWD. To give it authenticity the fraudsters had copied contents from the original website www.cpwd.gov.in and were even conducting fake exams and offering appointment to the victims.
Deputy Director General, eGovernance, CPWD, Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi had lodged complaints at South Avenue police station after which the investigation was taken up.
A team led by SHO South Avenue Inspector Suhaib Farooqui during the investigation ascertained the mobile number from which the website www.cpwdgov.in was created. One of the accused Ram Dayal was identified and the addresses of the accused was traced to monitor his movements resulting in his arrest. On Monday, secret information was received that the creators of the website involved in duping youngsters on the pretext of providing jobs would be coming to Mahipal Pur.
A trap was laid and all the three accused were arrested from Mahipal Pur. One laptop, five smart phones including one iPhone and fake identity and visiting cards of National Highways Authority of India were recovered from them.
Amit Kumar, a B.Tech (III yr) dropout from Doon Engineering College, Dehra Dun (Uttarakhand) is the kingpin of the gang. After having briefly worked with a call center, Amit started to work as toll clerk. He even got himself a fake ID card of NHAI to impress people. Unemployed youths in his acquaintance group were also impressed with his new profile and used to ask him to get them a government job as well.
"This gave him an idea of creating a website of the government department through which youths could be cheated in the name of providing employment. In 2018, he quit his toll clerk job and got a fake website created from a web designer in Lucknow and started cheating people in the name of providing employment," said Eish Singhal, DCP New Delhi.
So far, more than 50 unemployed youths have been cheated of around Rs 10-12 lakh by the accused. A piece of land in Lucknow and a car were also acquired by the accused Amit from the cheated money.
