The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) has estimated that 66 lakh white-collar professionals lost their jobs in India between May and August. These include software engineers, physicians, teachers and accountants. Employment of these professionally qualified workers has fallen to 1.22 crore, the lowest level since 2016, the private think tank said.
